Description

What is Sulfurized olefins PSAIL 3540?

Sulfurized olefin PSAIL 3540 is a high-activity ashless sulfur-based extreme pressure anti-wear additive synthesized via vulcanization of long-chain branched alpha-olefin. The product contains abundant active sulfur groups in its molecular sulfur bridge structure, which can rapidly form dense iron sulfide tribofilms on steel and alloy contact surfaces under high pressure and instantaneous impact loads. It delivers outstanding load-bearing and anti-scuff performance, and dissolves uniformly in mineral base oils, synthetic esters and polyalphaolefin base stocks without sedimentation. PSAIL 3540 is widely blended into heavy-duty neat metalworking fluids, industrial enclosed gear oils, high-load hydraulic circulating oils and heavy-duty industrial greases. It effectively prevents gear tooth scuffing, tool seizure and component sintering under severe service conditions and extends the service life of mechanical friction parts.

Features of Sulfurized olefins PSAIL 3540

PSAIL 3540 possesses distinct performance advantages over conventional low-activity sulfurized olefins and short-chain vulcanized products:

High active sulfur content & superior extreme pressure load capacity

The long-chain olefin vulcanization design delivers high total sulfur and active sulfur content. Under heavy shock loads and when the thin fluid oil film ruptures, sulfur atoms are rapidly released and react with fresh metal substrates to form continuous, shear-resistant sulfide protective films. Such films withstand sustained heavy sliding loads and instantaneous impact pressure, significantly improving the ultimate load resistance of finished lubricants.

Light color & low-odor molecular structure

The optimized vulcanization process reduces irritating volatile small molecules. Compared with traditional sulfurized isobutylene additives, it features lighter liquid color and milder pungent odor. It avoids dark discoloration of finished cutting oils and gear oils and improves operating comfort during blending and metal processing.

Excellent universal oil solubility & low-temperature stability

The branched long alkyl side chain improves compatibility with all types of base oils. No turbidity, precipitation or stratification occurs after prolonged static storage at low ambient temperatures. It disperses fully with simple stirring during workshop batching and simplifies lubricant compounding procedures.

Moderate thermal decomposition temperature & graded film-forming property

Sulfur bridge bonds break gradually as temperature rises and release active sulfur stepwise. It provides basic anti-wear protection under steady medium-temperature operation, and delivers strong high-temperature extreme pressure film-forming performance when contact temperature surges due to frictional heat, forming layered barrier films to avoid direct metal contact.

Excellent synergistic compatibility with phosphorus additives and friction modifiers

PSAIL 3540 can be compounded with phosphate ester extreme pressure agents, ashless friction modifiers and aminic antioxidants without flocculation or performance antagonism. Sulfur-phosphorus composite systems exhibit obvious synergistic lubricating effects, further boosting the overall anti-wear and load-bearing performance of additive packages and cutting total additive formulation costs for formulators.

Adjustable yellow metal corrosion tendency when matched with auxiliary metal passivators

When compounded with methylbenzotriazole derivative metal deactivator OSAIL 9960, it restrains tarnishing and pitting corrosion of copper, brass and bronze components. Used alone, it is more suitable for fully ferrous metal processing and transmission equipment, releasing its full extreme pressure potential without additional passivator costs.

Functions of Sulfurized olefins PSAIL 3540

As a core high-load sulfurized olefin extreme pressure additive, PSAIL 3540 fulfills four key functional roles in lubricant formulations:

Heavy-load extreme pressure anti-scuff & anti-seize protection

Under high pressure, high sliding speed and impact friction conditions, the additive reacts with steel surfaces to form solid iron sulfide tribofilms. These films withstand huge shear stress and isolate direct metal-to-metal contact, preventing gear tooth scuffing, bearing pitting and cold welding/sintering failures of cutting tools.

Graded tribofilm formation to reduce abrasive wear

It releases active sulfur gradually with rising contact temperature, generating thin protective layers for normal steady operation and thick compact barrier films under transient overload heat. The layered films reduce micro-abrasion of friction pairs and maintain stable long-term operational precision of equipment.

Enhanced lubrication for heavy metal forming processes

In metal stamping, forging, heavy cutting and drawing processes, PSAIL 3540 penetrates tiny gaps between molds and workpieces, bears forming pressure to reduce surface scratches and burrs, extends mold service life and improves surface smoothness of ferrous metal workpieces.

Synergistic stabilization of the whole additive system

When combined with phosphorus-containing anti-wear additives, it complements their respective lubricating strengths. It slows the oxidative degradation of base oils under high thermal loads, reduces accumulation of sludge and carbon deposits inside oil circuits and gearboxes, and extends the drain interval of finished lubricants.

Applications of Sulfurized olefins PSAIL 3540

Benefiting from its high active sulfur content and powerful heavy-load load-bearing capacity, PSAIL 3540 is applicable to a wide range of heavy-duty industrial lubrication and metal processing product lines:

Heavy-duty neat oil metalworking fluids

Formulated into heavy cutting oils, high-load stamping oils, steel drawing oils and forging forming oils for ferrous metal machining. It copes with extreme pressure generated during deep cutting, thick plate stamping and cold drawing, lowers mold and tool wear and improves surface finish of steel workpieces.

Heavy-duty industrial enclosed gear oils

Blended into industrial heavy-load gearbox lubricants, worm gear oils and reduction gear transmission fluids. It protects gear tooth surfaces under variable shock loads, eliminates tooth scuffing failures, stabilizes transmission efficiency and reduces equipment maintenance frequency.

High-load industrial circulating hydraulic oils

Added into heavy machinery hydraulic fluids, construction equipment circulating oils and high-pressure pump lubricants. It protects pump cores, slide valves and piston friction pairs under continuous high pressure and reduces abrasive particle generation within oil circulation systems.

Heavy-duty multi-purpose industrial greases

Incorporated into lithium complex greases, aluminum complex greases and open gear heavy-duty bearing greases. It maintains stable extreme pressure lubrication for bearings operating under sustained heavy loads and avoids grease lubrication failure caused by metal wear and high frictional heat.

Composite sulfur-phosphorus universal lubricant additive packages

Matched with PMET PE1690 / PE1310 phosphate ester series to build sulfur-phosphorus composite additive systems for general heavy-duty lubricants, balancing extreme pressure, anti-wear and friction modification performance for multi-scenario industrial equipment.

Price of Sulfurized olefins PSAIL 3540

The market price of Sulfurized olefin PSAIL 3540 fluctuates dynamically, determined by olefin raw material supply volume, single batch order size, price volatility of bulk sulfur chemical raw materials and regional delivery costs. To obtain the latest real-time quotations, bulk discount policies and recommended formulation dosage data, lubricant blending factories and formulators are recommended to contact professional additive suppliers directly for customized cost solutions.
