Paraffin Inhibitors

Graft copolymer/imide PCMET® 4282

PCMET® 4282 is a high-performance oilfield chemical product based on graft copolymer/imide technology. As a key member of the PCMET® series, it adopts advanced copolymer formulations to target paraffin-related challenges in crude oil production and transportation . By interfering with the crystallization and aggregation of paraffin molecules, it modifies wax crystal structures to keep them small and dispersed, effectively preventing wax deposition on pipeline walls and equipment surfaces. This product ensures smooth fluidity of waxy crude oils even under low-temperature conditions, reducing flow restrictions and the need for mechanical cleaning, thus maintaining efficient oilfield gathering and transportation operations.

Description

What is Graft copolymer/imide?

Graft copolymer/imide is a type of functional polymer material synthesized by graft polymerization technology, consisting of a main polymer chain (backbone) and grafted imide-containing side chains. It is typically prepared by initiating the polymerization of imide monomers (such as maleimide derivatives) onto a pre-formed polymer backbone (e.g., olefin copolymers, acrylic polymers) through chemical initiation or radiation methods. The introduction of imide groups endows the copolymer with unique structural characteristics, combining the mechanical properties, compatibility, and processability of the backbone polymer with the high thermal stability, chemical resistance, and functional activity of imide moieties, forming a material with targeted performance advantages.

Features of Graft copolymer/imide?

Graft copolymer/imide exhibits a series of outstanding features derived from its unique grafted structure and imide functional groups. It possesses excellent thermal stability, maintaining structural integrity and performance under high-temperature conditions without significant degradation, which is crucial for applications in harsh thermal environments. It also has strong chemical resistance, resisting corrosion from acids, alkalis, oils, and organic solvents, ensuring long-term stability in complex media. Additionally, it demonstrates good compatibility with various polymers, resins, and base materials, facilitating blending and modification without phase separation. The grafted imide side chains also contribute to enhanced adhesion, surface activity, and wax crystal modification capabilities, while its mechanical properties (such as toughness and rigidity) can be adjusted by optimizing the backbone structure, grafting degree, and imide monomer type to meet diverse application requirements.

Applications of Graft copolymer/imide?

Graft copolymer/imide is widely used in multiple industrial fields due to its versatile and excellent performance. In the petroleum processing industry, it is commonly employed as a high-efficiency pour point depressant and viscosity reducer for medium to high pour point crude oils, effectively modifying the crystallization behavior of wax in crude oil, reducing its pour point, and improving low-temperature fluidity to ensure smooth transportation and processing. In the polymer modification field, it serves as a compatibilizer or performance enhancer, improving the compatibility, thermal stability, and mechanical properties of blended polymers (such as plastics and rubbers). It is also applied in coatings, adhesives, and high-temperature resistant materials, enhancing the coating’s heat resistance and adhesion, and the adhesive’s bonding strength and durability in extreme conditions. Furthermore, it finds use in advanced material formulations, such as aerospace materials and electronic packaging materials, leveraging its thermal and chemical stability to meet high-performance requirements.

Price of Graft copolymer/imide?

The price of Graft copolymer/imide is influenced by multiple factors and shows significant variability in the market. Key determinants include the product grade (industrial grade, high-purity grade, or customized functional grade), raw material costs (such as the type and quality of backbone polymers and imide monomers), production process complexity (including grafting efficiency control, purification technology, and quality inspection standards), order quantity (bulk orders typically attract volume discounts), and supplier capabilities (such as R&D investment, production scale, and after-sales service). Generally, the price ranges from dozens to hundreds of US dollars per kilogram; industrial-grade products for general petroleum or polymer modification applications are relatively cost-effective, while high-purity, specially modified grades for high-end fields (such as aerospace materials or precision chemical processing) tend to have higher prices due to stricter production requirements and performance standards. Specific pricing requires detailed consultation with suppliers based on technical specifications, application scenarios, and order volume.
